Don't Freak Out, but BTS Is Taking a Break to Get "Re-inspired and Recharge With Creative Energy"

After taking the music world by storm, smashing records, and dancing into our hearts over the past couple years, Jin, RM, Jungkook, J-Hope, Suga, V, and Jimin of BTS are taking a much-deserved break. On Dec. 5, BTS's management team, Big Hit Music, released an official statement via Twitter confirming the group's hiatus.

"This period of rest will provide the members of BTS who have tirelessly committed themselves to their activities, a chance to get re-inspired and recharge with creative energy."

"Hello. This is BIGHIT MUSIC. We would like to inform you that BTS is planning to take a second official extended period of rest since their first in 2019 after they complete their official scheduled events of BTS Permission To Dance On Stage- LA and the 2021 Jingle Ball Tour. BTS stayed active in order to engage with fans in 2020 and 2021 amidst the Covid-19 situation, and achieved dazzling results to cement themselves as top global artists," the statement read. "This period of rest will provide the members of BTS who have tirelessly committed themselves to their activities, a chance to get re-inspired and recharge with creative energy. It will also be the first time for them since their debut to spend the holiday season with their families. We kindly ask once again that you show consideration for their need to enjoy ordinary and free, everyday lives while solely concentrating on themselves, albeit for a short while, during their period of rest."

The statement also explained that the members of BTS plan to return in the spring with an in-person concert in Seoul. They're also using this well-earned rest period to focus on creating new music. "We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the fans who continue to cheer for BTS and they will return as their best, healthiest selves after recharging so they can return all the love from the fans. Thank you," it concluded. Read the full statement here.

This marks BTS's first extended break since August 2019, which lasted for a month. Shortly after the announcement, the K-pop stars launched their individual Instagram accounts, amassing over 12 million followers as of Dec. 6. Take note of their Instagram handles: RM is @rkive, Jin is @jin, Suga is @agustd, J-Hope is @uarmyhope, Jimin is @j.m, V is @thv, and Jungkook is @abcdefghi__lmnopqrstuvwxyz.

BTS made their debut in 2013, but 2018 marked the point of no return for the K-pop band. That same year, Jin, RM, Jungkook, J-Hope, Suga, V, and Jimin made history as the first-ever Korean act to top the Billboard 200 album chart with their third Korean-language studio album, Love Yourself: Tear. In November, BTS became the first Asian group to take home an American Music Award for artist of the year.
